16th Annual Bob Turner Classic

T-Shirt Front 2018

General Information:

Welcome to the home of the Annual Bob Turner Classic.  We are hosting our annual 5K fun run and walk again this year on Saturday, May 5, 2018.  This event is a fundraiser that supports the athletic and academic needs of the students at Turner Middle School.  The event itself is open to all age groups and all ability levels.  Come challenge yourself to be the best.  Come and bring a friend to enjoy a beautiful walk through Berthoud.  Bring your little ones and get a better workout in by pushing a stroller.  You are even welcome to bring your four-legged friends (with a leash of course).  The 5K run starts at 8:00 AM.  We also have a free 100 meter dash for the under school age kiddos that happens 10 to 15 minutes before the 5K.

History of the Bob Turner Classic:

In 2002 the inaugural Bob Turner Classic was run.  It was a fundraising activity to help raise money for the Turner Middle School Athletics and Technology departments.  Now 16 years later we are still fundraising and providing Turner Middle School with a much needed boost for our Athletics programs.

The Bob Turner Classic was named in memory of Robert Turner for whom our school is now named.  Bob Turner was born and raised here in Berthoud, Colorado, the same town that his ancestors founded.  He attended Berthoud schools and in 1939 graduated from Berthoud High School.  After high school he attended the University of Colorado and then married another Berthoud native, Violette Lucas.  Bob then became a teacher and eventually a high school principal in Littleton, Estes Park, Rocky Ford, Sterling, and Greeley.  In 1969 he became the Director of Instruction for Thompson School District, and in 1980 Bob Turner accepted the post of Superintendent of the Thompson School District.  He retired in 1983, an integral part of our community.

In name this race honors the life’s works and achievements of Robert Turner.

As the main goal of the race is to raise funds for our wonderful programs here at Turner Middle School, we look to our community to help us promote and sponsor this race.  Last year the 15th Annual Bob Turner Classic raised $6000.00 dollars for our athletics program, and we are setting our goal even higher this year.  Come out and join us Saturday, May 5, 2018 and help us achieve this goal.

Local businesses and sponsors, the organizational costs of a race are significant, and in order to ensure that as much of the money raised is able to support our students we are always looking for race sponsors to help offset these costs.  All donations are welcome.  Monetary sums help offset race shirt production costs as well as bibs or other fees.  Prize donations help with providing door prizes and category prizes that entice participants to come out and join us.  Even Discount coupons, gift cards and promotional offers help as we place them in the participation race bags that the runners receive just for registering.  For more information on how to become a sponsor, or to learn more about the race and register to participate please use the links located on the left side of this page.
